About CYP
Introduction Canongate Youth Project (CYP) has been in existence since 1977 and has gradually developed over the years from a project offering specialised services to a relatively small group of teenagers into an organisation offering a broad range of services. We are based in the South Bridge Resource Centre at 6 Infirmary Street, Edinburgh and you can find our exact location on the map of Edinburgh here. You can also find full contact details here. The Project's catchment area covers the Old Town, Holyrood and South Side areas of the City of Edinburgh although the Training Services part of the organisation covers the Lothians. The Project is an independent voluntary organisation
with charitable status (Scottish Charity no. SC000600) and is managed
by a Management Committee comprised of people with a specific interest
in the development of young people, local people, together with representatives
from a range of local organisations and agencies. These include schools
(Primary and Secondary), police, local politicians from the four main
political parties Children & Families Department, representatives
from a number of community organisations, parents, volunteers and others
interested in the wellbeing of young people. The Project also operates a number of Sub-Committees and these undertake many of the responsibilities of the management of the Project whilst reporting regularly to the full Management Committee. These currently are Finance and Fund Raising, Personnel, Programme Review Team (Training Services) and Equal Opportunities. The Project has service level agreements with the City of Edinburgh Council Children and Families Department for the provision of Youth Work and Early Intervention services. Money is also raised from Charitable Trusts to support these services. The Training Services receive funding from Skills Development Scotland. Additional fund raising activities are undertaken on a regular basis to augment the programme and to provide additional activities and equipment for the work of the Project. If you wish to assist the Project by making a voluntary
donation or bequest you can do so here. Recent fund raising efforts have allowed the project to purchase a new mini bus and renovate our art room. Young people from the project were involved in painting a wild life mural for the art room. The staffing of the Project consists of 1 Project Co-ordinator and 1 Administrator and: Youth Work Team: 3 full time Project Workers and 2 part time Project Workers Training Services: 1 Team Leader, 2 Get Ready for Work Tutors and administrative support Options+ : 1 Project Worker Part time staff and volunteers also work within each of the four parts.
