Options +
Options Plus Lifeskills is a part-time national training
programme that is funded by Skills
Development Scotland. The programme is for 16 - 18 year olds who have
officially left school but are currently not engaging in any other employment,
education or training.
Programme
Similarly to Get Ready for Work, the programme aims to move young people
onto employment, further education or training. However, rather than the
primary focus being on employability, the main aim of Lifeskills is to
develop personal skills such as confidence, motivation, communication,
self-esteem and working with others. On an individual basis, learners
also work on job skills which include making a CV, applying for jobs or
looking into volunteering or college courses for the future. Trainees
can also work towards achieving qualifications in Access 3 Maths, Communication
and IT.
The programme is part-time (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday) starting from
11am. There are spaces for up to 10 young people.
Benefits of Attending Options+
Young people on the programme are paid a weekly training allowance of
£40 as well as a travel allowance and paid holidays. The programme
also provides the opportunity to meet new people and take part in activities
to improve skills, confidence and knowledge. Also, due to the small group
size, there is the opportunity for individual support if required.
Referrals and Recruitment
Young people must be referred to this service by Careers
Scotland and the length of referral is up to 6 months. Following a
referral a young person will be invited to attend an information session
to find out more about the programme and an individual interview.
